A very Important invite to you

Hi all hope you are well and surviving the rubbish weather?

So as you may have seen we have started to attend to the urgent areas of tree coppicing and scrub clearing at certain greens as recommended by our Ecologist and Agronomist back in November. It really is all about Light, air and creating sustainable areas!

17th green after thinning, coppicing and scrub clearing work. So much more air getting onto the Green and....

So much more morning sunlight aswell !

It's not  just about taking trees out and clearing scrub for the sake of it as a few rumours i'm hearing!

I wish to invite ALL OF YOU to an evening at your clubhouse on the 30th January 2024 at 7.pm.

Our Ecologist and our Agronomist will be here to present to you the Ecology report,  this will include a summary of the report, our forward strategy, our Carbon footprint mitigation  and a plan of works for the years to come.

They will also be available for questions after the presentation.

I urge all of you to come so you can hear the correct professional, suitably qualified reasons as to why this work needs to be done.

On the subject of questions and rumours I would like to dismiss one.

I have been asked by a couple of members that when my staff were renovating and improving the 14th pond/13th ditch was the Course neglected? So let's put this one to bed straight away !

The answer is basically  NO !

Firstly not all my staff worked on the project at the same time, and we had 3 contractors working with us.

We cut and set up the course just as normal as we do in Sep/ Oct. each morning, Stating the obvious we do not need to do so much cutting of grass in these cooler months.

My staff also worked extra hours for 3-4 weeks to make sure all other necessary jobs got done!

If you refer back to previous Course updates we managed a whole list of Autumn renovation work . This is standard procedure at all Golf Courses to have an Autumn / Winter works programme. Ours included, Top Changing the Greens twice, Cherry picker work, verti-draining and 'shockwaving' areas , levelling and re-turfing various tees, as I asked for by you the members, and also clearing debris and leaves.

We also installed more drainage, yes, the 3-4 weeks work some of my staff were working at 13/14 we could have installed more drainage, but weather conditions were not actually that ideal for drainage works.

Drainage works have been an ongoing project for the last 5 years and our intentions are to keep doing more drainage works every year.

So I reiterate at no time were the Course's main playing surfaces compromised.

Looking forward to 2024 we are planning and getting ready to improve your Course even more.

This includes , further Top changing of surfaces, more tee re-levelling,  general bringing up of the quality of playing surfaces even higher and the potential moving of the Putting Green,    ( though this one is still being discussed and the club will release details of this once 'hard' facts are available !) .

We also have our 60th Birthday Celebrations including  the 'Week of Golf' to look forward too !

On behalf of my staff, myself and the Greens Committee I would like to thank you for all your support in 2023 and look forward to your support in 2024

Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year. HOPE TO SEE YOU ON THE 30TH JANUARY 2024
