Abridge Golf Club

Course update

Dear all I hope you are still enjoying your Golf despite the awful weather!

These ones are happy with the weather

Just quick update on a few things re the Course

The Greens are a little slow presently but this is due to the rain top up we are getting most days.

You will also notice we are getting some habitual pecking on some of the greens. This is birds looking for grubs/ leatherjackets/worms. There aren't many there but once a bird starts  pecking it becomes a little habitual. As the greens are wet worms are very near the surface and this encourages the birds to peck. Not a lot can be done and with some drier weather it should stop.

Looking Lush

The whole course has become quite 'lush' again owing to all the rain.

On the positive note the Irrigation Lake is refilling nicely !

We have sprayed the greens this morning with a Fungicide as there are early signs of disease which is being caused by this humid wet weather. This means the Greens cannot be cut tomorrow, Friday, but will be ironed  and then cut and ironed both days over the weekend.

We are just presently scheduling our work for the next couple of months which involves drainage, 14th pond, top changing greens and hopefully tees, re-levelling some tees, scarifying fairways, Tree work with the use of a cherry picker, drainage of the 8th green and preparing some Winter greens and tees.

New Top Changer ready to go

Oh and general maintenance of the Golf Course !!

So, busy busy times ahead and I am pleased to announce we will be finally at our full compliment of staff from the 21st August.

On behalf of you all  I would like to welcome Bradley ( from Woodford GC) , Ryan ( new to greenkeeping) and Arron ( from Wanstead GC) to our great team. They are all are very keen to learn the 'Abridge way' and I hope you will all make them feel part of our Club.

Also welcome to all our new members that have recently enjoyed.

Finally you will notice from tomorrow we are trialling a new style Flag stick on the 2nd and 9th Holes. The greens committee and myself will be very interested in your feedback on them please ? They

That's it for now but in a few weeks I will give you a schedule of proposed works as mentioned above.

Enjoy your Golf , Enjoy your Club ............it's yours remember !!
