Latest Course news

Good afternoon everybody

Well we certainly got some rain yesterday !! Great for the course but flooding everywhere yesterday morning.

I am pleased to tell you that apart from not being able to cut anything yesterday the course drained really well and gave us a nice little top up in the reservoir.

The greens are improving each day since we did our Summer Renovations, but annoyingly we have been struck with a dose of Anthracnose disease and its causing some areas to struggle to recover.

To speed up the recovery we will be spraying a fungicide Saturday after cutting and ironing the Greens .

Owing to the fungicide being applied we cannot cut the greens until Monday morning. We will double iron the Greens on Sunday but my apologies if they are slower on Sunday.

Anthracnose on some of our Greens

On the subject of disease I am seeing some 'Dollar Spot ' disease on a few fairway and approach areas. It's caused by early morning dews and humid conditions.

I am sure you all remember that we got this the last couple of years and it all grows back but can be a little unsightly. No fungicides work that great on these areas as it only lasts a few weeks once sprayed. It also costs approx £10,000 to spray all fairways and approaches! AsI say it will grow itself out.

The 2nd hole is coming along slowly. We have started turfing around the new pond, but we have been unable to get all the turf we need as the suppliers are not keen to supply us with the 'Big rolls" of turf while it's been so dry. TheGreen is recovering nicely but not as quick as I would have liked. As Lol Green said in his email this week we will review the opening date in a few weeks time. I'm sure most of you will agree it's better to get it all finished properly than open the hole up too early half finished.

We will be building a new better mat on hole 8A next week and thinning a few trees out to make this hole a better substitute for the 2nd Hole

On the week commencing the 5th of September we will start on our continuing annual drainage works for approx 4 weeks. Starting with some extra drainage on areas on holes 1,3,4,8,10 and complete drainage of the 14th hole. I will keep you updated on the works over the next few weeks.

Hope you are all enjoying your 'Green'Golf Course and GOOD LUCK to those playing in the SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS on Monday

ENJOY YOUR COURSE, ENJOY YOUR CLUB...................IT'S YOUR REMEMBER !!!

Geoff
