Dear member, the last 2 weeks we have had some great drying weather and although temperatures have dropped again I hope to think it's time to wake the Course up! It's not quite polo shirt weather but it's improving.
Our Winter Scrub and Tree management programme will be coming to end imminently as things start to grow and our early season works can start.
We are really pleased with the amount of Scrub and tree work we have achieved this Winter and I thank my team for all their hard work as its tough working in the conditions we have had this Winter. The results are there for all to see.
So as I said 'Let the games begin!'
Lots gone on this week already. The greens have been spiked and granular fed and will get a trim tomorrow weather permitting.
The greens next Monday and Tuesday will be overseeded and lightly topdressed so please be understanding of the works going on those two days. The disease scars we have endured are starting to 'knit in' and the overseeding and feeding will accelerate this.
Patches on 1,7 and the 8th Greens have been re-turfed this week so please try not to walk on these areas.
We will be carrying out some 'root break' works to try to discourage the roots reaching the greens at the back of 7 and 8
Nathan re turfing the bare area at the back of the 7th green . Good to see all top changer holes full of sand
Root breaking will be carried out at the back of the green to try to stop the tree roots coming through the green
Fairways and Approaches have all been verti-drained and we are in the process of overseeding them all to recover from the Leatherjacket/ Bird pecking issues we have had.
Overseeding has started to repair the damage from the Winter and in particular the Leatherjackets/bird pecking.
Next week the Fairways and Approaches will get a feed of sugars and carbohydrates to boost seed germination and recovery.
The tees this week have been spiked, overseeded and lightly dressed. Early next week they will be granular fed to aide recovery from the Winter.
Hopefully in a few weeks we will start coming off Tee mats.
My staff have also spent 2 days redistributing sand and topping up sand in Bunkers. We still have a few more to do and hope to complete these works over the next 2 weeks
We have been busy this week grinding all the tree stumps from the Winter Tree programme and next week will endeavour to pick up as much of the shavings as we can
Other works over the next few weeks is testing, servicing and repairing any faults on the Irrigation system and we hope to 're dress' the paths.
We are also intending to put a couple of new ditches at the 1st hole to assist with Drainage.
One will be in front of the Ladies tee across to the Driving range. The other will be running along the right hand rough hugging the trees by the Irrigation Lake.
On the subject of Trees, we have our grant people coming in on Thursday next week to plant the first part of our Tree grant. We are still looking for some Members to help with this.
If you would like to help please meet at the Clubhouse at 10.15am. We reckon it will take a few hours to carry out the planting
The BIGGA orchard is settling nicely and the trees there are starting to blossom.
The Development Fund projects are confirmed as per your email you will have had if you are in the Fund.
Thank you to those that support the Fund it's great to have members that want to support the Club and the extra works we do with the Fund
That's it for now lets hope it starts to warm up soon
Welcome to all our new members that have joined us !
